Elementary Portfolio Group: Rob, Dwayne, Karen M, and Margaret

Focus: create opportunities for students to develop skills of cooperation and collaboration.

Goal: students will help make Consort School a "safe and caring" learning community.

Grade 4,5,6 teachers have collaborated to create a project for our students that will run from January to June of 2011.

Our students will be creating personal portfolios with four main sections:
  • Focus on Outcomes (title page, autobiography, copy of most recent report card)
  • Focus on Development of Skills (evidence of work experience, volunteerism, recognition, and letters of reference)
  • Focus on Character Education (evidence of acts of good character)
  • Samples of Improved/Best Work

We will start with collaborative activities that will provide opportunities for students to gather evidence of acts of good character.
We have divided our students into four multi grade groupings. Students will meet every second Friday to participate in character education experiences.

January 7th - "The Kick Off"
  • students watched the movie Pay It Forward to prompt thinking about "how I could make the world better"
  • students formed teams and used "talking circle" format to decide on a team name and a team logo
  • students created a poster stating their team name and showing their team logo, then presented both to the rest of the groups

January 21st - "Caring"
  • students discussed what "caring" means and ways of showing "caring"
  • students planned, rehearsed, and presented skits about "caring"
  • students were challenged to carry out a "caring act" and record on their team's bulletin board
